How to categorize products in CKB?

Users can specify fields by which to create a product hierarchy. This hierarchy makes it easier to locate products in the Data Manager and Space Planning.

1. Open CKB Builder
2. Create a database or select a database
3. Click the Categorize Products icon. The Categorize Products page is displayed
4. Select the Yes option button
5. Click Next
6. Click the Level 1 field in the Category Field column. A drop-down arrow is displayed
7. Select a field from the drop-down list to create categories in the hierarchy from the values in the selected field
8. Select fields for the remaining Level fields, as needed. Each subsequent level selected creates child nodes within the parent node above it in the hierarchy. Each product field can be used only once for categorizing products
9. If the database is configured to use common keys, select the Common Key check box to the right of a field to create hierarchy nodes for each of that field's values in each of its parent nodes, regardless of whether products exist for each value. This step allows you to create placeholder nodes, so you can add products to the node later, as needed. Care should be taken when using this field, because it could result in numerous unrelated child nodes within each parent node
10. Click Save to File or Save to Database to save the product category settings for use in categorizing products in other databases. After you have saved the settings, you can click Load from File or Load from Database to load the settings when configuring a new database
11. Click Next. The Populate window is displayed
12. Select the Include "(Blank)" Entry for Empty Fields check box to include a (Blank) node in the hierarchy for products that lack data in the specified fields
13. Select the Keep Existing Hierarchy Information... check box to categorize products in the (Unassigned) node only. Note that if this option is not selected, all existing product hierarchy information is removed before the new product categories are created
14. Click Finish. The Builder categorizes the products and displays the Categorize Planogram page
15. To close Intactix Builder, click the Close (X) button in the upper-right corner of the window

Notes:

• Users must be authorized as the database owner to categorize products in CKB Builder.
• Users also can use the Data Import Utilities in Intactix Console to categorize products, planograms, floorplans, and stores. See Categorize objects.
